Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a knock in their 2-1 win against Fulham earlier this week.
The Gunners’ hopes of lifting their first Premier League trophy since 2004 are almost over. With only eight matches remaining, they are 12 points behind Liverpool.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side are still alive in the Champions League and will face Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium next week.
The latest Arsenal news is a blow to their chances of beating Madrid, with first-choice centre-back Gabriel ruled out for the rest of the season.
The club has confirmed the Brazilian requires surgery after sustaining a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s win over Fulham.
Gabriel has been a key player for Arsenal this season. He has started 28 of their 30 league matches, helping them record the best defensive record with 25 goals conceded.
The 27-year-old has built a formidable defensive partnership with William Saliba over the past few years.
Gabriel’s injury adds to Arsenal’s injury woes. Defenders Jurrien Timber, Ben White, Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all currently dealing with fitness issues.
Forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz also remain sidelined due to injuries.
However, Bukayo Saka marked his return from injury by scoring a superb goal against Fulham. Fans will hope Saka continues his good form when they host Madrid on Tuesday.
