Speaking exclusively with FLW, Don Goodman has been discussing the amount of urgency surrounding Wednesday resolving the Danny Rohl situation.

Danny Rohl remains in his post as Sheffield Wednesday manager, but there are fears the longer that remains the case heading into the summer, the more damaging it may well be for the Owls.

That isn't because Rohl is a bad coach, far from that, in fact.

The 36-year-old has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting and well-respected young managers in European football, and was able to steer Wednesday clear of relegation in 2023/24, before delivering what threatened to be a play-off team in the Championship for large parts of this past season.

However, it is understood that the German wishes to move on from Hillsborough this summer, with the likes of Southampton, RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg among a host of clubs monitoring his situation.

"I'm surprised" - Don Goodman makes Sheffield Wednesday, Danny Rohl future claim

Speaking exclusively with Football League World, we asked Sky Sports pundit and former player, Don Goodman: 'Do you think Sheffield Wednesday need to sort out the Danny Rohl situation sooner rather than later?'

Goodman said: "I think one way or another, the Danny Rohl situation - I'm actually surprised that here we are, over a fortnight after the end of the season, and there still isn't any real news on is he staying, or is he going?

"I don't think that's any good for anybody, really. As I've said to you before, I think there will be suitors for Danny Rohl, but I also wonder about this buyout clause (reportedly around £5m).

"Which clubs would be prepared to pay that to get his services? I think it really restricts his options as it stands. It doesn't feel like he gets on well with the owner, so why would the owner change all that?

"It's all just a big mess, and it's Sheffield Wednesday under Dejphon Chansiri, so why should we be all surprised about that?"

Danny Rohl is entitled to bide his time for right opportunity - That doesn't work for Sheffield Wednesday

It's been reported that Rohl is prepared to show patience in order to ensure the next job he takes is the right one for him.

He's perfectly entitled to do that too, as is any coach looking for a new opportunity. What is different in this scenario is that Rohl is still already in a job, whereas most of the time in these situations, the coach is already out of work.

As a result, this stance leaves Sheffield Wednesday in a highly volatile and uncertain position. It would appear the club knows that their boss wants to leave, but have no indication as to when that will be.

Will it be in the next few days, or could it be a case of weeks or perhaps even months before this is resolved? Being in this state of limbo means planning for the 2025/26 season from a transfer and tactical standpoint becomes very challenging.

Wednesday won't want to start diving into the transfer market for players that the new manager, whenever that person arrives, may not want to work with.

We saw a similar situation evolve in the most recent winter transfer window, as a public communication breakdown between Rohl and Chansiri over transfer plans bled into mid-January without being resolved, meaning by the time the two had got round the table, targets had already been poached by other clubs, and the Owls were left scrambling somewhat to sign the players they needed.

Therefore, Wednesday must look to resolve this long-running saga as quickly as they possibly can, in order to give Rohl's successor adequate time to put their stamp on the squad this summer, and have enough time to prepare for the start of the 25/26 campaign.
