Birmingham City have confirmed their promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship after a 2-1 win last night.
Goals from Alfie May and Taylor Gardner-Hickman cancelled out Kwame Poku's goal for Peterborough, helping Chris Davies' team earn promotion in his first season as manager.
Gardner-Hickman’s goal was extra special as it marked Birmingham’s 100th goal of the season across all competitions.
Out of all top four tier teams, only Premier League leaders Liverpool (109) have scored more than 100 goals this season.
With 29 wins and 95 points so far, Birmingham have lost just three league games and are on track to break the records for most wins and most points in a single third-tier season. To do so, they’ll need to surpass two Midland clubs.
The points record is currently held by Wolves, with 103 in 2013/14, and city rivals Aston Villa hold the win record with 32 victories in 1971/72.
Additionally, since the EFL rebrand in 2004, no team has earned more points after 40 league games than Birmingham’s 95.
Next up, Birmingham could celebrate two titles this weekend.
If Wrexham fail to beat Wigan on Saturday, Chris Davies' side will be crowned League One champions. If not, they can seal the title when they host Crawley Town on Good Friday.
Then, on Sunday, they’ll play in the Vertu Trophy Final at Wembley and could add another trophy to cap off what’s been a season to remember.
