Boca Juniors have confirmed Rodolfo Arruabarrena as head coach on a deal to 31 December 2027. The club said in a statement that Egyptian assistant Amr Mokhtar will join his staff.

Arruabarrena had already taken charge following Claudio Úbeda’s departure after a Copa Libertadores group-stage exit. Thursday’s note formalised the 50-year-old’s return to the blue and gold dugout.

His backroom team also includes Diego Markic and Juan Gobet, with Gustavo Roberti and Cristian Aquino as fitness coaches. Cristian Muñoz will work as goalkeeping coach.

The agreement could be ended earlier in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

After his first Boca spell between August 2014 and February 2016, he spent much of the next decade in the Middle East. He managed Al-Wasl and Shabab Al-Ahli in the United Arab Emirates, Al-Rayyan in Qatar, Pyramids FC in Egypt, the UAE national team and Al-Taawoun in Saudi Arabia.

He has not managed since leaving Al-Taawoun in February 2025. Since taking over, he has moved to sideline several players, including Edinson Cavani, whose contract is to be rescinded soon following a joint decision with the board led by Juan Román Riquelme.
