Boca claimed a vital win over Talleres in Córdoba, Adam Bareiro scoring at the Mario Alberto Kempes. It made two victories on the bounce and stretched their Apertura 2026 unbeaten run to eight after 12 rounds.
Claudio Úbeda’s side are third on 20 points. They sit one behind Estudiantes and two off Vélez, leaders of Zone A, both with a game in hand. Defensa y Justicia also have one to play and are the only team who can dislodge them from that spot, according to LaNumer12.com.ar.
If Defensa beat Instituto in Córdoba, Boca would drop to fourth, and would not fall further, as no one below has matches in hand.
In the annual standings, Boca are fourth, within the 2027 Copa Sudamericana positions, one point behind Estudiantes. If Defensa beat Instituto, they would temporarily take next year’s Copa Libertadores play-off place.
While that race matters, it is still too early for firm conclusions. Boca also contest this year’s edition and their next match will be their group-stage debut.
On Tuesday 7 April at 21:30, they visit Universidad Católica in Santiago for the opening match of Group D, which also includes Cruzeiro of Brazil and Barcelona of Ecuador.
They will not travel alone to the Claro Arena, better known as Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo, with 2000 Boca fans confirmed after earlier doubts over away supporters.
Back home, Boca host Independiente at La Bombonera on Saturday 11 April from 19:30. They then face River at the Monumental on Sunday 19 April from 17:30.
