Real Madrid have taken things slowly as far as Joan Martinez is concerned. The youngster, who is regarded as one of Castilla’s finest talents, has recently returned to first-team training after spending more than a year on the sidelines.

However, since returning to training, Martinez has yet to make a single appearance for the Real Madrid senior side, even at a time when coach Xabi Alonso could have used some depth.

The Merengues are taking a cautious approach with the 18-year-old starlet, allowing him to get minutes with Castilla and regain his confidence and rhythm.

According to The Athletic, Borussia Dortmund have emerged as one of the potential suitors for Joan Martinez.

The German giants is joined by a list of European clubs looking to snap up the opportunity to sign one of Real Madrid’s finest youth talents in recent years.

However, the report does clarify that Martinez is not expected to leave Real Madrid, as the player himself is keen on proving his mettle at Santiago Bernabeu.

Not to mention, the player had recently signed a contract extension at Real Madrid in October last year and the club were very supportive throughout the course of his time on the sidelines.

Another key deterrent for Dortmund and other clubs is the defender’s whopping €70 million release clause, which is higher compared to other Castilla talents.

Such a release clause would certainly price Dortmund out of a move, although that’s not to say that Martinez’s long-term future is secure at the Santiago Bernabeu.

As for Martinez himself, he will be looking for first-team chances during the second half of the campaign, especially if the club’s ongoing injury woes drag on.
