Borussia Dortmund have signed Genk’s 18-year-old midfield talent Konstantinos Karetsas for a reported base fee of €30 million.

The Genk-born Greek international leaves his hometown club after several successful years with the Blauw-Wit. The youth academy graduate ultimately played 92 matches, scoring six goals and providing 23 assists. Fourteen of those assists came last season in all competitions, as the teenage playmaker starred in the Pro League and Europa League.

Lars Ricken, Dortmund’s Managing Director of Sports, said of the transfer: “With Kos, we’re adding a player to Borussia Dortmund who, at just 18 years old, already possesses tremendous talent.

“We’re thrilled that we were able to get him excited about our vision, and from the very first moment of our discussions, we could tell that Kos is eager to join BVB. And despite all the talent he already brings to the table, we still see potential in him that we want to help him realise together.”

A delighted Karetsas said: “Borussia Dortmund is a special club, and I’m incredibly proud to now be able to wear the Black and Yellow jersey. I’m really looking forward to getting to know my players and soon playing in front of our fans in this impressive stadium. I want to do my part to ensure that we’re successful together.”

With this move, Karetsas becomes Genk’s record-breaking departing transfer and caps a great few years for the club. Over the past three seasons, the Belgian club have reportedly sold players for a total of 185 million euros. This is offset by 51 million euros in expenditure.
