Barcelona are gearing up for their big Wednesday night encounter against Borussia Dortmund, in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.

Having performed exceptionally throughout the tournament so far, the game against last season’s runner-up Dortmund will be one of the many big challenges on their road to the final.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash, Dortmund players and coaches sounded rather upbeat as they look to secure an early lead before hosting Barcelona in the second leg at the Signal Iduna Park.

What Dortmund stars said about Barcelona

Karim Adeyemi, one of Dortmund’s explosive forwards, said (h/t FCB World), “I’m convinced we’ll come away with a good result there.”

Adeyemi’s words were echoed by his teammate Pascal Gross, who noted, “There’s nothing more exciting than these challenges. It’ll be a tough match, but all these games are winnable.”

Borussia Dortmund’s goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, sounded rather coy, though admitting that Dortmund will play without anything to fear.

“A great opportunity. We can play without pressure and give our all on the pitch,” said the Swiss goalkeeper.

Apart from the players, Dortmund coach Niko Kovac also talked about the prospect of facing Barcelona, a game where he will be reunited with his former assistant, Hansi Flick.

“The path is right, and we need to stay focused. I’m confident the players will give everything against Barcelona,” said Kovac, who worked with Flick during their time together at Bayern Munich.

Finally, Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, also sounded optimistic about his team’s chances of producing a good result in the first leg.

“We dare to say we’re capable of hurting them. We’ll try to get a good result to make the return leg easier for us,” he said.
