Fabrizio Romano reports that Borussia Dortmund will soon open talks with Chelsea over Carney Chukwuemeka. The Chelsea loanee will certainly not come cheap, but a incredibly influential performance in last weekend’s Bundesliga win against Borussia Mönchengladbach leaves BVB potentially interested in pulling the expensive purchase clause in the 21-year-old’s loan contract.
Chukwuemeka came off the bench against Gladbach on Sunday to replace the injured Maximilian Beier. Though he didn’t officially get his name on the scoresheet, the Englishman played a role in three Dortmund goals scored between the 41st minute and half-time.
Chukwuemeka has undoubtedly recovered from fitness concerns plaguing him early in his loan stint. He earned his first BVB start (and scored) against Freiburg in the Bundesliga two weeks ago.
It seems likely that – given the England U20 international’s price tag – Dortmund will first seek a fresh loan deal to keep the young talent in Westphalia next season. Chukwuemeka remains under contract with Chelsea until 2028.
