How both teams go into Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona

Barcelona are favourites to win the Champions League now, and it’s easy to see why with their commanding first-leg victory. The Blaugrana finished second in the group stage having won six of their eight games, only losing once. That secured direct passage to the last 16, where Barcelona beat Benfica 4-1 on aggregate. It’s back-to-back quarter-final appearances for Barcelona, after consecutive group stage exits. But now they’re on the brink of a first Champions League semi-final since 2018-19, and just their second since last winning the competition in 2014-15.

Borussia Dortmund were beaten finalists in the Champions League last season, losing to Real Madrid. And it looks like another Spanish side will send them packing this season. Dortmund finished 10th in the group stage with five wins and three defeats from their eight games, and had to go through the knockout phase play-offs. There, Dortmund beat Sporting CP 3-0 before knocking Lille out of the last 16. But they suffered their joint-heaviest ever defeat in a European Cup/Champions League game in the first leg against Barcelona.

Borussia Dortmund team news

This game will still be too soon for Marcel Sabitzer, while Nico Schlotterbeck is out for around six months with a knee injury.

Barcelona team news

Lamine Yamal came off late on in the first leg with a potential injury, but Hansi Flick has allayed any fears with the Spaniard just getting much-needed rest. Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Marc Casado remain out for the season, while Dani Olmo isn’t expected to return from injury until after the second leg.

Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona head-to-head

This will be the fifth meeting between these two sides. Barcelona have three wins alongside one draw so far, including a 2-3 victory at Signal Iduna Park in this season’s group stage.
