Borussia Dortmund will host Eintracht Frankfurt in a Bundesliga matchday 33 clash on Friday.
Dortmund will play their last home match this season and will look to finish the match on a positive note and secure the three points to confirm their second spot in the league.
For Borussia Dortmund, Emre Can continues to be absent with a long-term ACL injury. Joining him on the sidelines is Ramy Bensebaini, whose season has likely ended prematurely following a severe ankle injury.
The attacking options are also slightly depleted with Karim Adeyemi ruled out. While there is a glimmer of hope regarding Niklas Sule, who is most likely to be sidelined and Felix Nmecha remain a major doubt as they struggle to regain match fitness.
While Niklas Sule will be assessed, he announced his retirement after the end of this season at the age of 30.
Julian Brandt and Samuele Inacio started the last match but there might be changes in the team with Maximilian Beier set to be included in the team.
Eintracht Frankfurt travels to the Signal Iduna Park facing tactical reshuffling due to both disciplinary issues and nagging injuries.
The most immediate headache for the coaching staff is the suspension of Rasmus Kristensen, who is unavailable following a straight red card in the previous outing against Hamburger SV.
On the injury front, defender Nnamdi Collins remains out with an ankle problem, while veteran goalkeeper Jens Grahl is sidelined with a hamstring strain.
There are also lingering questions regarding the availability of Michy Batshuayi; the former Dortmund striker is battling fitness issues and may not be ready to face his old club.
Despite these gaps, Frankfurt will look to the attacking flair of Can Uzun and the clinical finishing of Jonathan Burkardt to exploit a Dortmund defence that has looked vulnerable in recent weeks.
Borussia Dortmund enters this fixture sitting in second place with 67 points, having already secured Champions League qualification. However, their recent form has been inconsistent as they “stumble” toward the season’s end, losing three of their last four matches.
Their most recent outing was a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach, where they struggled offensively. Despite this slump, a single victory today will mathematically clinch the runners-up spot with one game to spare.
Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in eighth place with 43 points, trailing the final European qualification spot by just one point. Their form has mirrored Dortmund’s recent struggles, with only one win in their last six outings and a current three-game winless streak. They are coming off a 2-1 loss to Hamburger SV, a result that cost them control of their European destiny. Improving their poor away record—just one win in 10—is crucial for their late-season charge.
Borussia Dortmund: Kobel; Reggiani, Anton, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Sabitzer, Bellingham, Svensson; Brandt, Beier; Guirassy
Eintracht Frankfurt: Zetterer; Amenda, Koch, Theate, Brown; Uzun, Larsson, Hojlund; Doan, Burkardt, Bahoya
