Borussia Dortmund's final league phase game of the Champions League sees them take on Inter Milan on Wednesday night. As it stands, the stakes couldn't be much higher for either team - victory seems imperative for both.

BVB will be eager to make amends for their truly dismal performance in London last week. That 2-0 defeat leaves them on 11 points in sixteenth position and trailing the eight direct qualifying spots by two points.

With around a dozen teams above them also vying for the top-eight, achieving that goal seems unlikely. At least Saturday's convincing 3-0 win against 1.FC Union Berlin ought to give Dortmund a much-needed morale boost.

As for Inter Milan, sat in fourteenth and a solitary point above the Westphalians, they have a similar task at hand. A win would boost their chances of either a top-eight spot or at least a more favourable play-off opponent.

A 3-1 defeat to Arsenal last time out, however, dented those aspirations. Despite some flaws in Europe, their domestic form has been excellent. The Nerazzurri top the Serie A table, five points clear of city rivals AC Milan.

By and large, it's been hard to separate these sides in recent meetings. In their four games to date, Inter Milan have two wins to BVB's one alongside a draw. A 3-2 victory over the Italians in 2019 may give the hosts inspiration.

Team news and predicted lineups:

In terms of player a availability, Daniel Svensson is suspended after his red card in London last week. Beyond that, Niklas Süle (back) and Marcel Sabitzer (calf) are slight doubts for Wednesday night.

As for Inter Milan, full-back Denzel Dumfries (ankle surgery) is unlikely to return until March at the earliest, while former Leverkusen and HSV midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu (calf) probably won't be risked in Dortmund.
