Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt delivered a six-goal thriller in the Bundesliga’s official 2026 curtain-raiser. Speaking in the mixed zone afterwards, BVB defender Waldemar Anton obviously remained distraught that his side twice failed to preserve a lead in the 3-3 draw. Anton contributed some interesting thoughts on four of the six goals scored.

Anton on the two blown leads

He [Serhou Guirassy] knows that he shouldn’t go in like that,” Anton said of the foul on Robin Koch by Dortmund’s still struggling striker in the 21st minute that enabled Can Uzun to score from the penalty spot. “And the second goal [the 2-2 by Eintracht debutant Younes Ebnoutalib in the 71st] was entirely avoidable. When a striker has that much space in the box, one can always defend better. We dropped our intensity after our goal and that’s not acceptable.

“[Mahmoud Dahoud’s 3-2 at 90+2] was something he [Dahoud] would hit maybe once in ten times,” Anton said. “Frankfurt were brutally efficient. [But Carney Chukwuemeka’s 3-3 at 90+6] shows that we currently have a great comeback mentality.
