After terminating his contract with Roma by mutual consent, Edoardo Bove has begun a new chapter in his life.

The former Giallorossi midfielder now wears the jersey of Watford, a club that plays in the English Championship.

The 2004-born player opened up in a lengthy interview with Il Corriere della Sera, discussing his condition: “I’m learning to get to know my new body. I’ve learned how to accept what happened to me.”

“I live with it without any problems and I’m happy to be here. Watford isn’t a second choice, it’s a challenge. This is a competitive team with a clear objective: to return to the Premier League. For me, it’s the right place.”

Bove then explained his reasoning: “I was looking for a team where I would be happy and comfortable, and that’s why I chose to come here. The medical and coaching staff, along with us, are doing everything we can to get back on the pitch as soon as possible, though it’s hard to say when that will be. It’s really nice to be part of a team again, to get to know the players, and the locker room. I missed it.”

Bove then concluded by revealing that he and Eriksen exchanged a few messages: “Yes, we exchanged several. The defibrillator is now part of me, even if I haven’t given it a name… It’s like a telephone, a little smaller, between my ribs and my skin. You can feel it, you can see it without my shirt on, but it doesn’t cause me any problems.”

“The first month after the surgery, I had to get used to it. I think it would be worse to have a knee problem. The diagnosis is out, but I prefer to keep it private. What I’m experiencing is a second chance at life, not just football. When you’re a footballer, you never ask yourself why you do this job; as a kid, you know you’re doing the best thing in the world. When you’re forced to live without it for a while, you miss it, you realize it’s your true passion. I’ll continue to try to fill my life with things I love to do.”

Finally, a word about his farewell to Roma: “It was brief because I think it’s hard to thank them in words for the affection they’ve always shown me. There’s this unbreakable bond that’s hard to describe if you don’t know the right words. Even the first separation when I went to Fiorentina was very hard, but it was a great learning experience, because you’re leaving home for the first time.”

“Terminating my contract was almost a necessity to return to playing. It was a great feeling to return to the Olimpico and say goodbye to the fans. This bond has always been there and will never end.”
