Braga sign João Pedro Gonçalves from Benfica on a free, contract to 2029 | OneFootball

Braga have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old forward João Pedro Gonçalves from Benfica on a free transfer, with a contract running until June 2029.

The Braga-born striker will initially link up with the club’s B team, coached by Rúben Teles, as he looks to impress before stepping up to the senior squad.

Gonçalves returns to his home city after spending much of his development at Benfica. In 2025/26 he featured for the under-23s, making nine appearances and scoring two goals.

After the move was made official, he said he is proud to represent his hometown club, called it a special moment for him and his family, and added that he is delighted to start this new stage.

He outlined his versatility across the attacking midfield, describing himself as quick and strong both technically and physically, and ready to help wherever the coach needs him.

Following several years with Benfica, Gonçalves now begins a new phase with the Arsenalistas, seeking to turn youth promise into senior opportunities.
