After a last-minute 2-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg this afternoon, Borussia Dortmund's Julian Brandt gave his thoughts on the victory and his goal which earned him the man of the match.

“I'm really proud of the team, it was a tough game in my opinion and I'm really happy that we earned the three points,” the 29-year-old told Bundesliga Official at full-time.

"I just do my work, it's my position [for attacking corners]. Normally, we try to hit the front or back post, but in the case it was to short so it was my job to head it into the net.

“I never scored a header for Dortmund, maybe for Leverkusen about eight years ago. I think I've only scored three or four headers in my whole career,” laughed Brandt.

The attacking midfielder also touched on the fact that BVB have managed to cut the gap to Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich down to three points before they face Hoffenheim.

"Firstly, I think week on week we are in a better position [in the table]. We're trying to catch up with Bayern, but we know if they win tomorrow the gap is still six points.

“Our goal is to put ourselves in a good position where we face Bayern at the end of February in Dortmund and maybe to make things a little bit close [in the table],” he added.
