Corinthians edged AABB 6-5 in the Campeonato Paulista de Futsal on Tuesday night, the eighth-round match at Ginásio Wlamir Marques doubling as a homecoming for academy product Lucão, who visited Parque São Jorge and was honoured.

“It is amazing. My values and character as a player were built here. Being back at Parque São Jorge is very special, I get goosebumps. Wearing this shirt meant playing for something bigger than myself,” he told Corinthians TV.

“We faced any team, anywhere, representing Corinthians. There were no friendlies, no easy games. I am the player I am today because I came through here. Vai, Corinthians!”

Lucão, 29, joined Corinthians’ futsal U17s in 2014 and reached the senior squad in 2016 and 2017 while also studying Psychology at UNIP. In the youth ranks he won three Metropolitan titles, three Paulista crowns and a Taça Brasil.

In Europe since 2018, he has represented Novo Vrijeme in Croatia and Spanish clubs ElPozo Cartagena, Jimbee Cartagena, Inter Movistar and Palma, where he is now a regular Brazil call-up. His honours span the Croatian league and cup, the Club World Cup, Spain’s league, Copa del Rey, Supercopa, Copa América and Taça das Nações.

On court, the result moved Corinthians to 22 points, level with Liga Sancaetanense and Ferroviária at the top of the Campeonato Paulista, though behind on goal difference.

Next up is Marreco at 21:00 on Saturday at Ginásio Arrudão in Paraná, the penultimate round of the LNF first phase.
