Liverpool have entered the race to sign Newcastle target and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitiké.
That's according to The Athletic, who report on Wednesday that the Reds have contacted Frankfurt about the possibility of signing Ekitiké, after Newcastle's initial offer of €75m for the France U21 international was turned down.
The move comes amid Liverpool's reported interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, with various outlets reporting on Tuesday that the Anfield club would be willing to pay up to ÂŁ120m for the Swede.
Newcastle are understood to be unwilling to contemplate the sale of Isak, and had been looking to bring in Ekitiké to bolster their attack. Liverpool's interest in the Frankfurt forward could well complicate the Magpies' plan.
The Premier League champions are looking to strengthen their own forward line this summer, following the tragic death of Diogo Jota and the possible departures of Darwin Núñez and Luis DĂaz.
