Breakthrough Real Madrid youngster set to be rewarded with iconic squad number | OneFootball

The call has been made. Gonzalo García will be La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid’s next no.9.

That’s according to journalist Alberto Pereiro, who has this week provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

The no.9 shirt was of course recently vacated in Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid squad.

This comes after Kylian Mbappé opted to leave the number behind, to replace the outgoing Luka Modrić as Los Blancos’ no.10.

A direct race for the jersey, in turn, was kickstarted between up-and-coming strikers Endrick, and Gonzalo García.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Tuesday is anything to go by, then a winner now appears to have emerged in this race.

As per a report from the aforementioned Alberto Pereiro, speaking on Radioestadio Noche, Gonzalo, after a breakout summer at the Club World Cup, has been chosen to become Real’s new no.9.
