Brentford were made to rue their missed chances as they fell to a 3-1 home defeat against Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

Staitham Bowen scored a late consolation goal at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre but it wasn't enough to get anything from the game.

Brentford were the side on top to begin the game, controlling the possession well and probing the Millwall defence.

For all the possession, no chances were created and midway through the first period, Elidon O'Boyle was found by Jaydon Thomas-Smith and the former slotted expertly into the bottom corner to put the visitors ahead.

Connor Wolfheimer was called into action as his pressure on Abdulahi Abdulazeez ensured the forward skied over when he looked set to score.

Nedved Owusu had the young Bees' first clear sight of goal but the attacker's strike was saved well by Caspar Lindner.

Jon-Paul Pittman's side could have levelled the scores not long afterwards as Enrique Roca found space in the box and showed great technique to get a shot away but his effort cannoned off the crossbar.

The Bees' biggest opportunity followed early in the second period, as Roca slipped in Naeem Giscombe but Lindner stood tall to make a save with his feet.

In quick succession, Millwall scored two more goals through Abdulazeez and William Wright which settled the contest.

Bowen pulled one back with a commanding header following a late corner but it was to be just a consolation goal.

The Under-18s take a break from league action as they travel abroad to take on Sevilla on Wednesday 12 February. There will be live updates on social media during the game and a match report after the final whistle.
