Brian Brobbey has played down links with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, saying he is not thinking about a summer move from Sunderland. The Netherlands striker acknowledged the speculation was nice but stressed he is focused on the Black Cats.
"It is always nice when such a big club shows interest, but I haven’t heard anything myself. So, I don’t know," he said, speaking to ViaPlay. Asked about a move to Germany, he added: "I don’t know. I’m not thinking about that right now."
He joined during the final days of a hectic summer window and needed time to reach full fitness. After opening his account in a 2-2 home draw with Arsenal, he quickly became a handful for Premier League defences.
Since arriving from Ajax, Brobbey has earned widespread praise and produced several eye-catching displays to help Regis Le Bris’ side push for Europe. Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman recalled him for last month’s friendlies against Norway and Ecuador, handing him his ninth and 10th senior caps.
"When I arrived here, everything was new and I wasn’t fully fit yet. I hadn’t played much at Ajax. So, I mainly had to work on my fitness, including substitute appearances and training sessions. I really grew in that area. And I also became more mature on the pitch. You play with experienced players who have been through a lot, like Granit Xhaka and Nordi Mukiele. You just learn from that."
