The Seagulls face The Gunners in their penultimate game of the 2024/2025 Barclays Women’s Super League season.
Brighton & Hove Albion have enjoyed much-improved home form this season and assistant boss Roberts says that the aim is to end the home campaign with a bang.
“We’ve had an excellent home record this year with unbelievable support from the fans and we want to make sure that we give them the best possible final game,” Roberts said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “As a squad, we want to finish the season well and we want to end with the best possible record at home.
“It has been a real fortress this year and we know how good a team Arsenal are, they’re Champions League finalists. It’s going to be a real challenge but I think that their game against Aston Villa showed how exciting this league is; a team that has had an up and down season has scored five against one of the best teams in Europe.
“It’s a testament to the strength and quality of this league and how unpredictable it can be at times but it hasn’t changed anything; we know the quality of Arsenal, how good they are and the depth that they have in the squad. We will prepare for what we know will be a very tough game.”
Brighton & Hove Albion currently occupy fifth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table and Roberts says that the team are focused on ending the campaign with strong performances.
He said “There’s a pack of five or six teams that are in contention for that fifth place in the league. Ultimately for us, with the journey that we have been on this season, it has very much been performance-driven; about the way that we play, the standards and principles that we set on and off the pitch.
“It has been a very positive year in many ways but of course, points on the board is important. We got three points against Everton and we have two really important games coming up, one of them being our last home game of the season. We want to finish the season on a high, chase all of the points available and hopefully, we can do that in the last two games.”
Prior to last weekend’s 3-2 win at Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion found themselves losing games by single-goal margins. Roberts says that the team will always get their rewards by continuing to stick to the process and maintaining standards.
He said “In some of the other games, we deserved more. It can happen in football where you can play well but not get what you deserve. If you continue to do the right things, follow the right process over time, you will get the rewards that you deserve. It was nice to see that outcome against Everton.
“It was also about the quality. As a team, we scored three fantastic goals, three different scorers in three different parts of the pitch, different styles and that really showcased the talent that we have in the group and how exciting we are to watch when we are firing on all cylinders.”
