Brighton & Hove Albion may adjust their January plans after Stefanos Tzimas suffered a season-ending ACL rupture. The club usually targets future signings in January, having bought the Greek forward from Nurnberg for around £20 million and loaned him back.

The nineteen-year-old was injured on his full Premier League debut in the recent 4-3 home defeat by Aston Villa. Asked if an extra striker in January is now a priority, Hurzeler said: “It can be, yes, but regarding the transfers I always emphasise that we will make decisions together (with owner Tony Bloom and the recruitment team)”, speaking to The Athletic.

Evan Ferguson, who scored twice against Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday, would not be a like-for-like replacement and the terms for both clubs of the Irish striker’s loan to Roma for the rest of the season are unclear. “Evan is our player, so that’s why he will always be an option.”

James Milner, Kaoru Mitoma, Yasin Ayari and Tommy Watson are back in contention for Saturday’s trip to Liverpool. Milner, 39, has been sidelined by a muscle injury since the 4-2 defeat at Manchester United in October, and Mitoma has been out with an ankle issue since the 3-1 win at Chelsea in September.

Ayari missed the last two matches against Villa and the 1-1 home draw with West Ham. Watson, nineteen, has yet to start in the league after a £10m move from Sunderland due to adaptation and injury niggles.
