Brighton travel to the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday night for their Carabao Cup second-round tie against Oxford United, desperate to secure their first victory of the new season.
The match is a crucial opportunity for Fabian Hürzeler to rotate his squad, build confidence after a frustrating start in the Premier League, and give debuts to several new signings.
Fabian Hürzeler is set to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven for tonight’s cup tie, using the match to give valuable minutes to his squad players.
A completely new-look defence is expected. New signings Olivier Boscagli and Diego Coppola are both in line to make their full debuts at centre-back, while regular cup goalkeeper Jason Steele will start.
In midfield, veteran James Milner, a two-time winner of this trophy, will bring his vast experience. He is likely to partner the fit-again Jack Hinshelwood and youngster Diego Gómez.
The attack will also be rotated. Danny Welbeck is expected to lead the line and will be keen to make amends for his missed penalty at the weekend. He could be supported by Yankuba Minteh and Matt O’Riley, who are also in need of minutes. The team remains without the injured trio of Adam Webster, Solly March, and Julio Enciso.
Brighton predicted XI: Steele; Veltman, Coppola, Boscagli, Kadıoğlu; Hinshelwood, Milner, Gómez; O’Riley, Minteh; Welbeck.
The Carabao Cup fixture takes place at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday, 27th August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 7:45pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports+ in the UK. Coverage will begin shortly before the 7:45pm BST kick-off.
