Barcelona are slowly and steadily making advances in their bid to sign Nico Williams.

Reports yesterday suggested that Barcelona already have an agreement in place with Nico over a summer move to Camp Nou.

The Catalans are reportedly confident about sealing the deal to sign the Athletic Club winger by next week, with the player set to become the club’s second major signing of the summer.

Inaki Williams urges Nico to stay

However, as Nico looks to make a crucial decision on his future, he is facing stiff pushback from none other than his own brother, Inaki Williams.

According to Diario SPORT, Inaki, who will become Athletic Club’s first captain next season, has been one of the strongest voices urging Nico to stay at San Mames.

“It’s impossible to love [the club] more,” Inaki has said of his deep connection with Athletic, a sentiment that has played a significant role in the family’s stance.

The bond between the Williams family and the Athletic Club runs deep.

Their parents, Maria Arthuer and Felix, made the long and difficult journey from Ghana to the Basque Country, where both Inaki and Nico eventually found their footballing path through Athletic’s academy.

Last summer, Nico came close to leaving for Barcelona after Spain’s triumph at the European Championship.

Talks were held, and Nico was positive about the move, but strong emotional pressure, especially from Inaki and their mother, pushed him to stay.

This time around, despite a lucrative renewal offer from Athletic, it appears that the issue is not financial, but emotional.

Barcelona remain optimistic, but they are up against not just a club, but a family whose loyalty to Athletic runs deeper than anything.
