Bruma made his comeback after six months as Benfica were held 0-0 at Tondela. The winger could yet be a boost for the rest of the season.

According to Glorioso 1904, Sunday’s stalemate in the 20th round of Liga Portugal Betclic allowed Sporting to move 5 points clear in the battle for second place.

The 31-year-old came on in the 83rd minute and looked to inject dribbling threat. His profile gives José Mourinho a natural wide option who can unbalance defences. With Dodi Lukébakio injured, he could become a useful addition in the second half of the campaign.

He had been out since 26 July last year after a complete rupture of his left Achilles tendon in the Eusébio Cup against Fenerbahçe, then coached by Mourinho. The lay-off cost him several key fixtures and reduced the scope for rotation.

Mourinho had already welcomed his return to the squad before the Juventus tie in the Champions League, saying he would start on the bench and that he trusted his experience if needed. He also congratulated the winger, praising the quality of his recovery.

Signed from Braga in January 2025 for €6 million, Bruma played 14 matches last season before the injury, scoring once with two assists.
