The agent of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes held “face-to-face talks” with Al-Hilal over a blockbuster £100 million exit from Old Trafford this summer.
Fernandes, 30, has emerged as a leading target for the Saudi Pro League side after a failed pursuit of Liverpool winger Mohammed Salah.
Al-Hilal have presented a “mega bid” to the Portuguese international and had set a deadline of Thursday for a response over the move at the start of the week.
Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, was spotted at the Four Seasons hotel in Riyadh today – a venue Al-Hilal typically use to conduct transfer negotiations as it is located close to their headquarters.
Chris Wheeler (Daily Mail) reveals Pinho held direct negotiations with Al-Hilal officials and was presented with a contract proposal worth “£200 million over three years”.
Wheeler further details the Saudi Pro League club are willing to table a £100 million offer to United to prise away their 30-year-old midfielder.
Ben Jacobs (talkSPORT) corroborates this update, revealing Pinho met with Al-Hilal today and talks “ran late into the evening.” Sources close to the Saudi club indicate the discussions were “productive” with significant efforts made in the last few days to push for the “green light” from Fernandes.
Tweet: “Bruno Fernandes agent Miguel Pinho travelled to Saudi Arabia this week to meet with Al-Hilal and speak to president Fahad bin Nafel.
Discussions, described by Hilal sources as “productive”, took place at the Four Seasons in Riyadh, and talks ran late into the evening. Hilal asked earlier in the week for an answer within 72 hours as they look to firm up marquee signings ahead of the Club World Cup.
Hilal are still waiting on Fernandes’ decision but pushing. Saudi sources insist Fernandes is yet to reject their offer, adding significant efforts have been made in the last two days to try and get Fernandes’ green light.
#MUFC’s position remains they don’t want to lose their captain and no bid has arrived to date from Al-Hilal. The next few days are going to be key in clarifying Fernandes’ future.”
Jacobs maintains the position at Old Trafford is the club wants Fernandes to remain and that “no bid has arrived to date from Al-Hilal.”
However, the reporter counters this by revealing the “next few days are going to be key in clarifying Fernandes’ future,” suggesting an explosive switch to Saudi Arabia cannot be ruled out for the United captain.
