Manchester United find themselves in a difficult situation after three losses from six games in the Premier League.
Numerous players have been criticised for their start to the season, including captain Bruno Fernandes.
Fernandes was in irresistible form at the end of last season but he has certainly found it harder to influence games this season.
He did score a late winner against Burnley and opened United’s scoring in the 2-1 win over Chelsea.
Nonetheless, he did miss two crucial penalties away from home to Fulham and Brentford that could have dramatically altered the result of both games.
The Portugal international was heavily linked to a move to Saudi Arabia in the early summer but he eventually decided to stay at the club.
In spite of this, there have been insistent rumours that Fernandes has only guaranteed that he will be staying this season and could look to move on in 2026.
There have been stories that Fernandes is unhappy with some of Ruben Amorim’s decision making and is questioning his future at the club.
Nonetheless, journalist Sam C reports that “Bruno Fernandes remains fully focused on leading Manchester United, continuing to set the standards expected of the club’s captain, I understand.”
He also goes on to say that, “those close to Fernandes insist he’s had no complaints about the role he’s been asked to play and remains fully focused on leading by example for Manchester United.”
It is also stated that Fernandes is one of the senior leaders and that he is determined to turn things around, starting with securing three points against Sunderland at Old Trafford tomorrow.
Since the midfielder joined the club, he has been the team’s heartbeat. Therefore, if the Red Devils are to recover this season, it is highly likely that they will need Fernandes to play a key role.
