Bruno Fernandes return timeline emerges, it is bad news for United | OneFootball

Manchester United ended up losing 1-2 away to Aston Villa on Sunday, but that was not the worst thing that happened on the night.

Bruno Fernandes, who was partnering Manuel Ugarte in the midfield in Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo’s absence, picked up what seemed like a hamstring injury in the first half.

But he soldiered on, and completed the first 45 minutes, and fans were hopeful the skipper would emerge from the tunnel for the second half.

That did not prove to be the case, as the Portugal international was replaced by Lisandro Martinez in the centre of the park.

After the game, Ruben Amorim revealed it was a soft-tissue injury. “During this year, especially at this time, we have so many problems, but we have to cope with that.

“I think it’s soft tissue [Fernandes injury] so it’s going to be a while. We’ll see.”

Now, The Telegraph have provided a deeply disturbing timeline regarding his return. They have claimed that the club captain will be missing in action for at least a month.

“Bruno Fernandes could be missing for at least a month after sustaining a suspected soft-tissue injury which forced him off at half-time in Manchester United’s defeat at Villa Park.”

Out for crucial fixtures

The wording used in the report effectively indicates he could be out of action for over a month.

That means he is likely to miss the FA Cup tie against Brighton and Hove Albion as well as the Manchester derby and the game against table-toppers Arsenal.

With AFCON stars Bryan Mbeumo, and Amad set to be unavailable for almost a month, especially if their countries progress deep into the tournament, this latest blow could not have come at a worse time.

The 31-year-old has missed only two games for the 20-time English league champions through injury, and now, INEOS will understand how much the club needs Bruno Fernandes.
