Bruno Genesio set a calm, clear tone at his Marseille unveiling, embracing benevolence and accepting a summer driven by departures.

According to L'Équipe, he presented kindness as a management tool, saying messages land when you stay close to the squad and hierarchy. He rejected the idea the job demands madness, emphasising serenity and lucidity in tough moments, while noting he can be more forceful when required.

The former Lyon and Rennes coach has signed through 2028. He will have resources, with a wage bill still above LOSC even if cut below 100 M€, but less freedom than predecessors who revelled in lavish markets.

Genesio confirmed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exit. He said he was fully aware on signing that players must be sold and costs reduced, and that honesty guided talks. He added that ambition still requires assembling a good team.

New sporting director Grégory Lorenzi, endorsed by Medhi Benatia, sounded more uneasy, calling the finances worrying. He justified the Mason Greenwood fee by the player’s wish to leave quickly, declined to give figures and said social media numbers are wrong. The deal is 39 M€, with a portion due to Manchester United, and he added September’s squad may not match August’s, a churn Marseille know well from the Pablo Longoria era.
