United set sights on Bruno Guimaraes coup

Indeed, Guimaraes has become a concrete target for Manchester United amid their ongoing quest to find a suitable Casemiro replacement.

More than one midfielder will be signed in the summer, but acquiring a proven option like the Newcastle skipper would undoubtedly be a tremendous starting point.

In fact, Casemiro himself has reportedly suggested that INEOS sign Guimaraes when he departs, having shared the stage with the 28-year-old on numerous occasions for Brazil.

Newcastle, of course, will do anything to keep hold of their main man.

His absence in recent weeks has been detrimental to Eddie Howe, with the side sustaining gutting defeats like their 8-3 (aggregate) Champions League thumping at the hands of Barcelona and 2-1 home derby loss to Sunderland on Sunday.

What’s being said about Guimaraes to United?

It has been claimed, even by Fabrizio Romano, that United chiefs met with Guimaraes’ representatives in recent weeks to gauge the feasibility of a potential transfer.

Andy Mitten is unaware of such talks taking place, though, and instead has his suspicions that the player’s team are using United’s interest to try and secure an improved contract offer from Newcastle.

“I saw the Bruno Guimaraes story recently. I have not heard anything from my sources on that. I was up in Newcastle last week, and I didn’t hear anything there,” said Mitten on the Talk of the Devils podcast.

“I suspect, but cannot prove, that it is coming more from his side in regards to negotiating a new contract.”

His current terms run until the summer of 2028, and they are keen on having him tied down to a more long-term deal.

As for Guimaraes’ agent, Alexis Malavolta, he took to X/Twitter late last night to react to the ongoing speculation, sharing a simple question mark.
