Bruno Irlès has been suspended by Girondins de Bordeaux after Saturday's 1-3 home defeat to Chauray, with Rio Mavuba in the frame to replace him.
According to Le Progres, the move was confirmed on Sunday, the day after the loss at Stade Atlantique. Vice-president Arnaud De Carli said it is not 100% done but this is the direction they intend to take.
Bordeaux, in N2, had set the aim of returning the six-time French champions to Ligue 3, the new name for the future National, at the end of the season. Successive defeats, 0-1 at leaders La Roche-sur-Yon last weekend then 1-3 to Chauray on Saturday, proved decisive.
With seven matches remaining, the Girondins are still second, six points behind La Roche Vendée, who also have a game in hand.
Mavuba, a former France midfielder now coaching the U16s, has been strongly linked to the post.
