Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has revealed the inspiration behind his hilarious celebration with Amad as the club beat Brighton and Hove Albion last month.

Mbeumo and Amad have been key to United’s resurgence under Ruben Amorim in recent weeks.

The pair are developing a promising relationship, which has made United’s right flank a dangerous avenue of attacks against opposition defences.

The African duo were in full flow on Sunday, 26 October, inspiring United to a pulsating 4-2 victory over Brighton at Old Trafford.

Mbeumo managed a sensational brace, adding to the two goals scored by Casemiro and Matheus Cunha during the opening 45 minutes. To celebrate his first goal against the Seagulls, Amad and Mbeumo performed a cheeky dance routine that took social media by storm, quickly becoming a fan favourite.

Now, Mbeumo has explained what motivated the celebration.

He told United media, “It’s from a GIF from Homer Simpson.”

“Yeah, so if you go on the GIF [section in your phone] and you put ‘Homer Simpson dance’, you will be able to find it.”

Mbeumo added, “I think we’ve been talking about this [Amad and I], this morning with him, so let’s see [about any future celebrations].”

The former Brentford man was also quick to credit the squad for the club’s uptick in form.

“Obviously, I’m very happy with this [Player of the Month award]. But, as I always say, I think it’s teamwork, and a lot of players would have deserved this as well this month, so I’m happy.”

Mbeumo and United are next in action on Saturday when they go away to Tottenham Hotspur. The game kicks off at 12:30 GMT.
