Two more Championship clubs are believed to hold an interest in bringing Glen Kamara back to England
Burnley and Middlesbrough are the two latest clubs to be credited with an interest in bringing former Leeds United man Glen Kamara back to England in January, joining Sunderland in the race, but the Championship trio face competition from Ipswich Town and Southampton.
That's according to TBR Football, who claim that the promotion chasers have all staked a claim to sign Kamara in the coming weeks but there is interest from the Premier League, which could prove an obstacle.
Leeds sold Kamara to Rennes in the summer for a reported €10m, but the Finnish international has struggled since crossing the channel, losing his spot in the side and now firmly out of favour at the French club.
As such, a January move could be on the cards for a player who hasn't started a club game since November, which perfectly coincides with the arrival of new Rennes boss Jorge Sampaoli.
While the interest of Burnley and Middlesbrough in Kamara is new, Sunderland had been believed to hold an interest in Kamara shortly before their fellow promotion chasers.
The Black Cats will hope they have an advantage in the fact that Regis Le Bris has strong connections in French football, but they'll be acutely aware that the last few weeks have seen them lose ground in the automatic promotion race, so this new interest from two of their rivals is untimely.
It's sure to be an intriguing race to sign the midfielder, with all three clubs vying for the same goal, but with Premier League suitors too, the trio face a huge battle to convince him that they're the right option.
Whoever signs Kamara will have to give some assurances of game time, as Rennes' change of manager seems to be the driving force in Kamara looking for a way out.
The Finnish international has been an unused substitute in two of Rennes' last three games, while the only one he did appear in, he was handed a mere 14 minutes, which shows just how out-of-favour he's become under Sampaoli.
The opening of the January transfer window is now only a matter of days away, and for this promotion-chasing trio in particular, it's the last chance to assemble the perfect squad for the final part of the season.
Signing Kamara would be a huge boost to any of these sides, as he has experience of being involved in the promotion race, albeit his Leeds side came up short last season.
Burnley would appear to be the most well-set of the trio squad wise, with many players who've been here and done it before, while they other two lack that kind of experience, so it's easy to see why there's such clamour for Kamara.
