Four days after the chaotic conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, Pape Thiaw stirred controversy by instructing his players to leave the pitch following the penalty awarded to Morocco. On Thursday, the Lions of Teranga coach once again expressed his apologies on social media regarding the incident.

"We experienced an exceptional tournament with fantastic organization, which unfortunately ended in dramatic fashion. It was never my intention to go against the principles of the game I hold so dear. I simply tried to protect my players in the face of injustice. What some may see as a breach of the rules was nothing more than an emotional reaction to the bias of the situation. After consulting together, we decided to resume the match and win this trophy for you. I apologize if I offended anyone, but true football lovers will understand that emotion is an integral part of this sport." he stated.
