Tanzania qualifies with 2 points, an unprecedented feat in AFCON

Tanzanie vs Tunisie/@RMC Sports
Tanzania has clinched its first-ever qualification for the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations, while setting a new record in the process.
With just two points on the board, they have become the first team to advance with such a low tally since the introduction of the best third-placed teams format at AFCON 2019.
The Taifa Stars secured their spot after a 1-1 draw against Tunisia on Tuesday in Rabat, edging out Uganda, who finished last in Group C with just one point.
Statistically, two other third-placed teams also had two points, but Tanzania outperformed Comoros on goal difference (-2 compared to -1) and Angola in terms of goals scored (1 goal versus 2).
This has never happened in other competitions using this system, such as the Euros (2016, 2020 and 2024) and the Asian Cup (2019 and 2023), except for the 1986 World Cup, when Bulgaria and Uruguay both qualified with just two points.
Tanzania's qualification as one of the best third-placed teams means a tough challenge awaits in the round of 16, as they are set to face tournament hosts Morocco.
