Cancelo ‘would accept’ pay cut to play for Benfica as Barcelona future unclear | OneFootball

João Cancelo has hinted he could leave Barcelona at the end of the season, with his future still unresolved.

The full-back has been at Barcelona since the last winter window on loan from Saudi side Al Hilal. Speaking to Portugal’s Channel 11, he said he would like to return to Benfica at some point.

He added that he has already earned more than he expected and would accept a reduced salary to play for Benfica, likening the experience to playing basketball.

Barcelona want to keep Cancelo beyond this season without paying a fee, but Al Hilal are insisting on 15 million.

Cancelo began his career at Benfica before turning out for Juventus, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Barcelona.

The Catalans are also identifying alternatives in case an agreement cannot be reached, with Alejandro Grimaldo and Andrea Cambiaso under consideration.
