Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes defended himself following the latest accusation launched by Roy Keane.
The 31-year-old made history on Sunday by registering his 20th assist in the current Premier League campaign after setting up Bryan Mbeumo’s goal in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

The Portuguese star has now equalled the record set by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne. He will have the opportunity to surpass the Arsenal and Man City legends on the final day of the season, when Man Utd take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
With Man Utd having already secured their place in the Champions League, and third place virtually guaranteed, the players appeared adamant about helping their captain make history.

Even Fernandes admitted that he made the extra pass at times rather than shoot straight at goal, in the hopes of extending his assist tally.
These comments infuriated Keane, who accused Bruno of putting his personal interests above United’s, which is inexcusable for a skipper.
“I was raging about it. The whole conversation was about his assists, players talking about his assists,” said the former MUFC captain on the latest episode of The Overlap.
“He got interviewed after the game, and I was watching him, and everyone was talking about his assists. Even the players were. The whole discussion after the game was about his assists.
“Wow. How can the mindset of a footballer go into a match thinking about an individual record if it happens?”
After being named as the Premier League’s Player of the Year during the Football Writers’ Awards, Fernandes had the opportunity to respond to his Man Utd predecessor.
The Portugal international insisted that he has always put the team’s best interests above his own and that Keane’s accusations are unacceptable, as his mindset cannot be questioned.
“I know people can have different opinions about me but they cannot say that I am not someone that looks to [help] the team and tries to make the team the most successful one,” he told Sky Sports News.
“I will always try to win trophies and not individual accolades.”
This certainly isn’t the first time Keane has harshly criticised Bruno. The Irishman has repeatedly suggested that the former Sporting Club star isn’t captain material, even if he possesses elegant technical skills.
Nevertheless, Fernandes has always responded in a calm and respectful tone, avoiding further controversy.
