Former Wolves midfielder Carl Robinson is in contention for the vacant St Mirren managerial post in the SPL. According to ExpressAndStar.com, he is viewed as the leading candidate, with face-to-face talks planned for Monday after a recruitment firm put him forward among other candidates.
Robinson came through Wolves' youth ranks in the mid 1990s and, following a loan spell, established himself as a regular. Over six seasons he made more than 170 appearances before being released and joining Portsmouth.
Further loans followed, then permanent moves to Norwich and Sunderland. He later headed to MLS with Toronto and ended his playing career at New York Red Bulls in 2011.
The former Wales international has taken head coach roles in Canada and Australia, then had a short stint at Birmingham City alongside Wayne Rooney. Having previously worked under Rooney at DC United, he was appointed first-team coach but the spell ended after Rooney was dismissed following 15 games.
More recently Robinson has served as assistant coach at Atlanta United in the United States. He is being tipped to replace Stephen Robinson, who left St Mirren for Aberdeen.
