According to L'Équipe, talks are ongoing between Toulouse and head coach Carles Martinez Novell, whose deal expires in June, yet nothing is agreed and a departure remains possible.

Discussions began after the transfer window and continue with the Spaniard, in post since 2023. One clear point is that his future is not tied to Tuesday’s Coupe de France semi-final against Lens at 21:10, rather to personal reflection.

The prospect of a new cycle, with a squad to rebuild amid likely exits, could have bred some fatigue, or perhaps his message has simply run its course. Potential departures include Cristian Casseres, Charlie Cresswell, Aron Dönnum, Yann Gboho and Guillaume Restes. With limited finances, Toulouse are monitoring the market, favouring coaches who are available.

Olivier Pantaloni, 59, free at season’s end and not extending at Lorient, could appeal. Bruno Genesio, 59, is also out of contract at Lille but is likely beyond budget despite his close ties with president Olivier Cloarec from their Rennes stint from 2021 to 2023.

Another candidate is Jordan Galtier, 37, under contract with the club until 2027 and unwilling to remain an assistant for his whole career. He is set to complete his BEPF in June, opening the door to a first head role at Toulouse if the seat is vacant, or elsewhere. For now, several scenarios remain possible, including a foreign coach identified by a retooled, internationally minded recruitment unit.
