Carlo Ancelotti believes Real Madrid's Champions League reign is not yet over and Los Blancos will be in the final once again, according to a close friend of the Italian.
The La Liga champions capitalised on their success in Spain's top flight last season by adding the Champions League trophy to their growing cabinet, defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the tournament's final at Wembley Stadium.
However, things have not gone to plan this season, with Madrid currently sitting 24th in the new-look Champions League standings after a run of tough performances. Defeats to Liverpool, AC Milan and Lille have seen the champions fall further down the standings, while rivals Barcelona are flying ahead in 3rd.
Madrid must impress against RB Salzburg and Brest if they are to steal a chance of qualifying for the next round of the competition. As it stands, they sit at the bottom of the play-off spots on six points, just ahead of Paris Saint-Germain on four.
Ancelotti, however, is confident that Madrid will be able to turn their fortunes around. Journalist Alberto Cerruti, appeared on Spanish radio show El Larguero to discuss Madrid's Champions League performances and claimed to have contacted Ancelotti for a comment ahead of his appearance.
Reciting Ancelotti's reponse, Cerruti said: "Tell them anything, but the most important thing is that Madrid will be in the Champions League final in Munich."
Injuries issues have plagued the side so far this season, with Ballon d'Or runner-up Vinicius Junior the latest to be sentenced to the injury room, but Ancelotti remains hopeful that his reigning champions will rediscover their best form soon.
