Carlos Soler is back in Spain’s provisional squad reckoning after hitting form with Real Sociedad. According to Superdeporte, the former Valencia midfielder has returned to Luis de la Fuente’s preliminary list.
After a spell of ups and downs that kept him out of international contention, Soler has rebuilt his influence with consistency and balance. He has four goals and two assists in 29 appearances across LaLiga and the Copa this season.
A final call-up is not assured, but having his name back on the table at a key stage already counts as a personal step forward. Competition in Spain’s midfield remains fierce, with pivots like Zubimendi and Rodri, and interiors such as Pedri, Fermín, Baena and Dani Olmo. Gavi’s recent return and injuries to Mikel Merino, Barrios and Fabián Ruiz increase his chances.
Soler has represented Spain at Under-19, Under-21 and at the Olympics, winning the 2019 European Under-21 title and silver in Tokyo. He debuted for the seniors in 2021 and scored on his first appearance, joining the group of Valencia players to net on debut.
He delivered telling performances in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, then scored against Costa Rica at the finals. That campaign ended with the shootout defeat to Morocco on 6 December 2022, when he missed a penalty and was among those unfairly singled out, and he has not figured under De la Fuente since. He has 14 caps and four goals.
