Carlos Vicente is close to joining Birmingham City from Deportivo Alavés, with talks at an advanced stage and a fee of around €8m that could be finalised in the coming hours, according to Superdeporte.

All parties view the move positively. Alavés, direct rivals of Valencia and Levante in the relegation fight, would bank a significant sum to strengthen in the winter window, while the winger would move into English football after his breakout at Mendizorroza.

The player’s current value contrasts with the price Peter Lim declined to pay in the 23/24 winter window. Valencia’s majority shareholder refused to approve the 600,000 euros release clause at Racing de Ferrol, despite Miguel Ángel Corona having lined up the deal, and then president Layhoon Chan told club executives there was no capacity to invest.

Vicente was key in the win over Betis. The Zaragoza-born 26-year-old has grown in influence in Vitoria since arriving from Racing de Ferrol.

In 2025/26 he has featured in more than 20 matches, with around 4 league goals, some from penalties, and an approximate scoring rate of 0.20 per game. Across his LaLiga spell he has more than 11 goals and 9 assists in over 75 appearances. In all competitions for Alavés he is close to 16 goals and 13 assists in more than 80 games.
