Casemiro believes he would have remained at Manchester United for one more year had Michael Carrick been appointed earlier, according to the Sun.

The Man United midfielder is leaving the Old Trafford club at the end of the season and the Red Devils are already scouring the market for a replacement.

Casemiro joined the club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 and has been in fine form since Carrick took over in January.

The 34-year-old has played some of his best football in the Premier League under the soon-to-be next permanent manager of Man United.

Carrick has taken measures to ensure the Brazil international stays fully-fit, and he completed 90 minutes in four consecutive games for the first time this season earlier this month.

Casemiro feels he would have been able to play longer for the Red Devils had the Englishman come in earlier.

The South American missed Man United’s match against Sunderland last week, the first time he had sustained an injury this season.

He is expected to move to the Major League Soccer after the World Cup in the summer, with a deal to join Inter Miami on the cards.

Casemiro has handed over gifts to staff he has worked closely with at Carrington training complex and will say his goodbye to the fans on Sunday when the Red Devils host Nottingham Forest in their final home game of the season.

He has nine goals and two assists in 33 league games, with five of those goals coming under Carrick.

This season is also his best-ever in terms of goals-scored since he started his professional career in 2010, and some of his teammates have expressed a desire to see him remain at the Theatre of Dreams beyond this season.

Man United have a big task on their hands as they look to get the perfect replacement for the Brazilian this summer, and Carrick will hope they get it right.
