Cássio suffers serious left knee injury in Flamengo v Cruzeiro

Cássio suffered a serious left knee injury during Flamengo v Cruzeiro at the Maracanã early in the second half. According to Coluna Do Fla, scans confirmed a multi-ligament injury.

He will undergo surgery at Hospital Orizonti, overseen by Cruzeiro's head of medical, Dr. Sérgio Campolina. The expectation is that he will only return in 2027.

At 17 minutes into the second half, Royal challenged for the ball in the six-yard box with the goalkeeper. Cássio fell awkwardly and complained of pain. Tite then introduced Matheus Cunha, ex-Flamengo, in place of the number 1.

Flamengo secured their first home win of the Campeonato Brasileiro, beating Cruzeiro 2-0 at the Maracanã. Pedro and Carrascal scored the goals.

Flamengo next face Botafogo at Engenhão at 20:30 Brasília time on Saturday 14 in the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
