Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin doesn’t think the Blues are ready to mount a challenge for the Premier League title.
Chelsea once again invested heavily in the squad over the summer, and made six signings for the first team, with five of those attackers.
The frontline underwent a major revamp with Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte all arriving.
Chelsea also signed Jorrel Hato to provide much needed back-up for Marc Cucurella, which plugged a big hole in the squad.
Much to the disappointment of supporters the Blues didn’t sign a new centre back or goalkeeper, and they’ve had issues in both those positions at the start of the season.

Estevao gave Chelsea a much needed last minute win against Liverpool to move them onto 11 points from seven games, and five points behind leaders Arsenal.
However, Chelsea’s start to the season has been plagued by injuries and inconsistency, and Nevin feels they aren’t ready to challenge for the title.
“Personally, I don’t think they’re ready yet. Their centre-back situation is a cause for concern; you can’t win or challenge for a league title when you’re using your sixth and seventh choice centre-backs.
“In reality, I can’t see past Arsenal. They’re strong in so many areas; if Declan Rice gets injured, they have an assembly line of players ready to replace him.”
Chelsea had a good first season under Enzo Maresca in which they qualified for the Champions League, and won both the Conference League and Club World Cup.

The pressure is on this season to make more progress and close the gap on Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, whilst trying to win more silverware.
Chelsea certainly have a chance in the cup competitions, but whether they have the consistency to mount a title challenge is unclear.
