Sheffield United were recently at the heart of a takeover saga that saw the ownership change hands.

The Blades confirmed in December 2024 that COH Sports had completed their purchase of the club amid a push for promotion to the Premier League.

The signing of Tom Cannon in the January transfer market was their first big statement move, with The Athletic reporting a £10 million agreement was reached with Leicester City for the forward.

Supporters will be hoping to see similar backing in the summer, with Chris Wilder’s side in the hunt for a place back to the top flight.

When asked if the owners have the club’s best interests at heart or not, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from Blades Ramble, suggested he’s not sure.

He believes it’s too early to tell, raising some concern over their lack of communication so far.

“It’s untested in terms of the ownership, it’s a new ownership so we don’t know,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“I think the fans are cautiously optimistic.

“The £10 million signing of Tom Cannon gives us hope that they are ambitious and that they are willing to spend to get us where we want to be.

“But, ultimately, we don’t know.

“We don’t know how loyal they are to managers, we don’t know, we’ve not heard from them.

“There’s been no official public speech since it’s all been announced, since they’ve taken over.

“We’ve got a statement through the club website and that’s been about it really, so we may hear something in the summer that gives us more information about them, but in all honesty it’s a bit of an unknown at the moment.”

Sheffield United are aiming to earn promotion straight back to the Premier League, having been relegated in 20th place last season.

Too soon for new owners to make major impacts at Sheffield United

The new Sheffield United owners are still only a few months in the door at Bramall Lane, so it’s too early to judge their intentions for the club.

It was a positive sign to see them back Wilder in the January market, and suggests there will be more money to spend than under the previous regime.

Some other owners may have decided to ditch Wilder as one of their first moves, not because of him doing a poor job but because he’s not their appointment, but COH Sports avoided that, which would’ve been a mistake.
