CBF releases VAR audio of Allan red card in loss to Fluminense

A controversial incident drew attention during Corinthians’ 3-1 defeat to Fluminense on Wednesday night at the Maracanã, in the ninth round of the Brazilian Championship. Timão midfielder Allan was sent off after making an obscene gesture toward the opposing team’s bench.

On Thursday, the CBF released the VAR audio, led by Rodrigo D’Alonso Ferreira (SC). On the field, Davi de Oliveira Lacerda (ES) did not see the gesture, but reviewed the play on the monitor and showed the red card.

VAR booth: What did he complain to you about just now, Davi?
Referee: He (Allan) put his hand on his crotch, something like that, I didn’t understand.
Assistant: They’re complaining that Allan made an obscene gesture at them.
VAR booth: Davi, right in front of you he (Allan) does make an obscene gesture. I recommend an on-field review for a possible red card.
Referee: The obscene gesture is clear to me, okay? Disrespectful. His number is 29, red card decision for number 29.
