The generosity of the Celtic supporters once again contributed to the underprivileged of society as the healthy and hearty sum of over twenty thousand pounds was raised, plus a significant amount of food for those most in need of support over the festive period.

The Green Brigade despite being currently banned from attending fixtures, led the initiative before Sunday’s game with Hearts, and showed once again how much they contribute to the club in a charitable manner. We also saw how much that they contribute to the atmosphere at Celtic Park on Thursday night when they were missing and the Celtic Bhoys silent in protest.

The atmosphere in the stadium was dreadful from start to finish and so too was the Celtic performance on the park, especially in the first half when the game was lost.

Our club was founded on such principles, and it’s heartwarming to see that they are still being applied by the Celtic support in a day and age of self preservation.

Celtic supporters haven’t turned their backs on the club’s identity and they never will, in good times and in bad that will never happen.

Each and everyone one of us continue to embrace the compassion of Brother Walfrid in any significant way we can, no matter how big or small the contribution. We haven’t forgotten our humble origins and the Green Brigade – supported by the wider Celtic support illustrated that perfectly last weekend.

In terms of bringing everyone together perhaps the Celtic Board should offer to match the donation raised by The Green Brigade for this cash appeal and on an annual basis going forward. Much of the money donated to The Celtic Foundation comes from Celtic supporters and few if any would have any problem with the club’s charity getting involved by offering to match the sum raised. It would bring folks together and many supporters would probably given more knowing that the money would double up to help those in need.

What a great ‘Celtic’ thing to do, so why doesn’t Celtic do it?  Instead on the same day they were crying to the Sunday Mail editor about a few posters being posted around Glasgow, one in Castlemilk spotted by the blogger James Forrest’s dad, who didn’t feel threatened or intimated seeing it.

Multi Billionaire, major shareholder Dermot Desmond, and his rich lackeys continue to pay lip service to the club’s principles.

The Green Brigade have their faults, and obviously  they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but ever their biggest critics can’t deny the positives they bring to the club at the games and in through their charity work.

They bring colour and atmosphere to games, they remind us of our history, whether that’s through Tifos or their songs. Off the park they continue the good work of our founder, who would have welcomed their inspirational work.

Let the spirit of Christmas and the ethos of Brother Walfrid help bring the Celtic family back together again. Over to the Michael.
