Vale of Leven 1-3 Celtic. Celtic are forced to play the whole game with 10 men after their very own Mick McKeown missed the train to Alexandria for the match. Sandy McMahon made his first appearance for the club.

St Johnstone 1-4 Celtic. From 1-0 down at half-time, the Hoops fought back strongly in the second half at McDiarmid Park courtesy of Marc Antoine-Fortune’s brace, and late strikes from Georgiois Samaras and Paddy McCourt. Tony Mowbray’s side move seven points behind Rangers with a game in hand.

24 January 2004

Aberdeen 1-3 Celtic. Stephen Pearson opened his account in a Hoops jersey. Celtic’s run of consecutive league wins now stretched to 20 matches after their terrific three points at Pittodrie. Bobo Balde’s participation in the ongoing African Cup of Nations allowed a young John Kennedy to make a rare start. Larsson’s goal on the stroke of half-time confirmed his place as the third top goalscorer in Celtic’s history.

24 January 2015

Ross County 0-1 Celtic. Despite no sign of contract talks progressing between player and club, Kris Commons’ deflected shot in Dingwall gave Ronny Deila’s side a narrow victory in Dingwall cementing their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership ahead of Aberdeen.

24 January 2009

Celtic 2-1 Hibs. With Rangers dropping points in the lunchtime kick-off, pressure was on Celtic to reduce the gap at the top of the table. Scott McDonald and Stephen McManus’ early goals from corners eased tensions. After lacklustre results, three points on the board made for Gordon Strachan made it a rare decent afternoon for the reigning Scottish champions.

24 January 1998

Celtic 2-0 Morton. Harald Brattbakk and Darren Jackson made it a fairly comfortable in this Scottish Cup third round tie. It was Brattbakk’s first goal for Celtic, and Henrik Larsson missed a penalty. Billy Stark [Morton manager] and Frank Connor returned to Celtic Park for the first time since Stark’s resignation at the end of the 1996/1997 season.

SATURDAY 24 JANUARY 1925 – 42,000 are crammed into Cathkin Park to see a fine attacking Celtic performance and an eclipse of the sun! The eclipse is spectacular but only partial and does not prevent the crowd from seeing the game, although the Third Lanark management did provide candles in the Press Box just in case. The real brightness comes from the forward play of Celtic for whom the impressive young Jimmy McGrory scores a hat-trick and Alec Thomson and Patsy Gallacher one each in the 5-1 defeat of Third Lanark in the Scottish Cup. Tommy McInally, currently with Third Lanark, is not playing today because he is suspended, having been sent off when the two clubs played in the League a few weeks earlier.

SATURDAY 24 JANUARY 1931 – Celtic don’t always do well at Pittodrie and a 1-1 draw is looked upon as a reasonable result. McGrory was out injured but it was his deputy Joe Cowan who scored the goal which equalised. It was a windy day, and Celtic were possibly lucky when Yorston hit the bar. But it was a good game of football and both teams were applauded at the end.

SATURDAY 24 JANUARY 1981 – A trip to England today to play Berwick Rangers in the Scottish Cup results in a fine 2-0 win on a day that the Berwick men fight hard and are applauded by the Celtic fans for so doing, for the memory of what they did in 1967 still remains strong in Celtic memories! Charlie Nicholas and Tommy Burns score the goals for a team which has clearly turned the corner since the New Year.

SATURDAY 24 JANUARY 1987 – A tight game at Falkirk today which Celtic win 2-1 with goals coming from Maurice Johnston. A large crowd is there, but it is obvious to many people that the Brockville ground is now beginning to show its age.

SUNDAY 24 JANUARY 2010 – A good win for Tony Mowbray’s side today at McDiarmid Park as Celtic beat St Johnstone 4-1 with a couple of goals from Marc-Antoine Fortune, one from Georgios Samaras and one from Paddy McCourt. St Johnstone scored first, but it was a good second half performance after the Saints had a man sent off for a second booking.
